Szeged sits on the banks of the Tisza River in southern Hungary, just 15 km from the Röszke/Horgoš border crossing — the busiest road freight entry point between Serbia and the European Union. With a population of around 160,000, this university city serves as the critical staging area for Serbian goods entering the EU customs territory. The M5 motorway connects Szeged to Budapest in approximately two hours, making it the first link in Hungary's north-south freight spine for traffic originating in Belgrade, roughly 250 km to the south.
